Neurodivergent Adults
I offer services for adults who may suspect a diagnosis of ADHD or Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) or may have just been formally diagnosed to process what this all means. We can work on ways you might adapt your life to be more supportive of your needs as a neurodivergent person, better understand your past experiences, and heal from the burnout involved in masking and the traumatic invalidation involved in growing up different but being told you were just “too sensitive” or “too disorganized” or “too much”, etc., etc.
Together, we will work on unmasking, reconnecting with old special interests, discovering new coping mechanisms and celebrating what it really means to be neurodivergent. Recently, many studies have shown what those of us with lived experience have always known deep in our bones: that neurodivergence is underdiagnosed in people who are not white, cisgender male, straight, or young. That the research has always exclusively focused on those groups and has neglected anyone who may check that other category. That masking or codeswitching or hiding who you really are to fit in is both a societal expectation of those who occupy any marginalized status and also is a barrier to getting real, meaningful care and support.
Please note that while I cannot formally diagnose you with ASD or ADHD, I can point you in the direction of psychologists who are able to conduct psychological assessments and are up to date on the current research.
I want to help you:
know yourself & understand what works for your body and mind.
reconnect to your body and special interests.
feel confident in identifying & expressing what you need
heal from a long history of traumatic invalidation & swallowing yourself to fit in with a society that demands perfection.
feel like you are in control of your own life, rather than a passive participant.
build and participate in a life that feels worth living to you.
